When choosing a staple gun, the first place to start would be to determine what you need it for. There are generally three different types of staple guns distinguished by the power source used to operate the gun: manual, electric (From a cord or battery) and pneumatic (Compressed air).
Manual Staple Guns
If you are just doing some light stapling and are looking for a cheap but good quality staple gun, then I would suggest a manual one. Manual staple guns are good for easy tasks around the house like hanging up christmas lights.

Electric Staple Guns
Electric staple guns are similar to those of manual ones, but they are different in one way. They are electric! That means easy power! Electric staple guns are easy to shoot nails from, and require a lot less strength to do so. They tend to be used for similar uses as manual staple guns.

Pneumatic Staple Guns
Pneumatic staple guns are great for heavy duty projects or construction jobs. The word pneumatic means that they are air-powered, or powered with an air compressor. These staple guns are powerful and can pretty much send a staple through any reasonable material (Probably not solid rock or steel though).

Upholstery Staple Guns
Fixing upholstery or reupholstering a piece of furniture is one of the most common things a simple staple gun is used for. Manual or battery powered staple guns make the best upholstery staple guns because they are easy to carry around, and the cord doesn’t get in the way.
